Fairford and District U3A - Constitution

Fairford and District U3A proposed new constitution

The existing constitution of Fairford and District U3A was originally set out in 1994, amended at the Annual General Meetings in 1998 and 2008. However, it has become rather outdated by, among other things, the Third Age Trust U3A guidelines and Charity Commission "good practices" guidance documents. With this in mind your committee agreed that we should consider bringing it up to date and fill in any gaps.

The proposed new constitution has been based on the Third Age Trust "U3A Model Constitution", a review of other U3A constitutions and information from the Charity Commission. Our proposed new constitution generally follows the format of the "U3A Model Constitution". The changes include details of membership of U3A and committees, periods of office, voting requirements, reporting to the Charity Commission and the role of President.

A copy of the current constitution and proposed constitutions can be found by clicking on the links. The Membership will be asked at the AGM in 2017 to consider the new constitution and to approve its adoption.

If any member wishes to discuss the new constitution prior to the AGM in 2017 please feel free to contact me.

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM
